WELCOME TO SUGARS PLACE!
Sugar's Place is a new restaurant located downtown at 168 W Griffith St,
adjacent to Sterling Towers, in Jackson, MS. We are directly across the
street from Mississippi College School of Law in the Farish
Street historical district.
Glenda recently retired after 28 years with the telecommunications industry
and has over 35 years experience in cooking and Donovan has over 20 years
experience in the restaurant business as a chef, manager and owner. While
still employed, Glenda had envisioned having a small restaurant or catering
business after retirement and her husband Shelly wanted to help her realize
that dream. Sugar's Place is the product of teamwork put forth by Shelly,
Glenda, Donovan, Tiffany and Scheleria. Having
worked downtown all those years, Glenda knew what was missing for downtown
worker's dining, and wanted to fill that void, as well as be a part of the
revitalization of the Farish Street Historical
District.
The name of the restaurant is in memory of Glenda's mother Velma
"Sugar" Cage, who taught her to cook and she in turn passed these
skills on to her son, Donovan. Our menu consists of Southern Fare that you
would find on the dinner table at Mom or Grandmother's house on any given
Sunday. We have macaroni & cheese, yams, greens, mashed potatoes, rice
and gravy, pork chops, fried fish, fried chicken and lots more! We also have
a wonderful peach cobbler for dessert! In addition to the southern fare we
also have a half pound hamburger that you have to try and we offer a downtown
club, roasted turkey and smoked ham sandwich. For those who are health
conscience we also have a selection of salads such as a garden salad, fried
or grilled chicken salad, and a chef salad as well.
We are now offering breakfast and invite you to try our wonderful pancakes,
biscuit sandwiches and creamy grits. Being in very close proximity with the
School of Law and many other downtown businesses, we are committed to
providing a wonderful down home food experience daily!
